MASON CITY - Nels L. KITTLESON, 64, of 829 12th St. N.E., died Thursday (Aug. 7, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David ANDERSON officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 3 p.m. Moose Lodge service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Nels L. KITTLESON Memorial Fund.

Nels was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Mason City, the son of Clarence and Clara (ELSTAD) KITTLESON.

At the age of 17, Nels entered the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper ranger during the Korean Conflict, where he was awraded the Purple Heart and various other medals.

He married Deloris BIRCH on Nov. 27, 1954, in Mason City.

After Nels was discharged, he worked for Jorgenson Constructin Co. from 1955-65, then for Henkel Construction Company for 29 years, before retiring in 1995.

Nels was a member of the Moose Lodge #1328, V.F.W. Post #733, Lunker Club and enjoyed fishing in Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris KITTLESON of Mason City, two sons, Bradly KITTLESON of Mason City, and Bruce KITTLESON and his wife, Michele, of Osage; five grandchildren, Cody and Travis, of Mason City, and Jonathan, Megan, and Jake, of Osage; mother-in-law, Dorothy BIRCH of Mason City; two brothers, Laverne "Bud" KITTLESON and his wife, Marilyn, of Mason City, and Alfred KITTLESON and his wife, Mary, of Delmar; four sisters, Evelyn CALLANAN and her husband, Robert, of Clear Lake, Lorraine KINGSBURY, of Mason City, Margaret GRELL, of Northwood, and Beverly STURGES and her husband, Don, of Edina, Minn.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerome; one sister, Carrie JOHNSON; one daughter, Tammie, and father-in-law, Dale BIRCH.
