MASON CITY - L. Dale BIRCH, 83, of 1023 12th St. N.W., died Monday (Aug. 26, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Herb SHAFER of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth, with full military rites performed by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Ave., with a Moose Memorial service at 7 p.m. There will be further visitation until service time on Wednesday.

Memorial may be given to the L. Dale BIRCH Memorial Fund.

L. Dale BIRCH was born Nov. 7, 1912, in Mason City, the son of Sidney and Edith (LESTER) BIRCH.

Dale attended Mason City schools and married Dorothy ASHLOCK on Nov. 12, 1931, at the Grace Evangelical Church in Mason City.

Dale worked for 39 1/2 years at Northwestern States Portland Cement Compnay and retired in 1972.

Dale enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling.

He served in the United States navy in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943-1945.

He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the VFW and the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy BIRCH, of Mason City; one daughter, Deloris KITTLESON and husband, Nels, of Mason City; one son, Gary BIRCH and wife, Joyce, of Garner; two grandsons, Brad KITTLESON and his wife, Deb, of Mason City, and Bruce KITTLESON and his wife, Michele, of Osage; six great-grandchildren, Rosalie, Cody, Travis, Jonathon, Meagan and Jake; and four sisters, Annette HADDY of Mason City; Flossie LORENTZEN and her husband, LeRoy, of Mason City; Phyllis McDERMOTT, of Atlanta, Ga., and Betty WHITE and husband, Frank of Vancouver, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronnie BIRCH; one granddaughter, Tammie KITTLESON; and one brother, Cecil BIRCH.
