___________

Prominent Man Laid to Rest in Elmwood Cemetery; City Mourns
___________

Last rites for the late Fred Howe COTTON, who met a tragic death Tuesday, were conducted at the residence, 225 Third street northeast, at 3 o'clock this afternoon by the Rev. Dr. W. L. DIBBLE, pastor of the Congregational church.

Throngs of sorrowing friends attended the service, many of them being forced to remain on the lawn after the house filled. The bier was covered and banked with floral tributes of sympathy and sorrow.

"Abide With Me," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" were beautifully sung by Mrs. W. L. BENNETT during the service. Mrs. R. A. PATTON accompanied her.

Pall bearers were D. W. and William McCAULEY, H. C. FRIESNER, Dr. B. N. BEEMER, W. B. PEDELTY and Charles COOK.

Dr. DIBBLE spoke of the exemplary character of the deceased man, lauding his kindliness and devotedness to his beloved wife [Berth Alice (PACKER)] and daughters.

A brief committal service was held at the grave in Elmwood cemetery before the body was lowered to its last resting place.
