MASON CITY - Larry B. BERDING, 59, of 2910 S. Jefferson, died Friday (March 3, 2000) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. David ANDERSON officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date.
Family greeted friends from 4 to 6 :30 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. There was an Elks service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home by BPOE No. 375.
Memorials may be directed to the Larry BERDING Memorial Fund.
Larry Ben BERDING was born Aug. 23, 1940, on the family farm in Mason City, the son of John Bernard and Alberta Carrie (EVERHART) BERDING. He attended schools in Rockwell and Grafton.
On Sept. 24, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Elaine BARLOON in Mason City.
Larry took great pride in his work. He owned and operated L. B. BERDING Construction for many years until starting Southside Furniture with his brother, Bud, nearly 10 years ago.
Larry was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and Elks Lodge No. 375. He enjoyed fishing trips to Leech Lake in Minnesota two times a year. Larry collected toy John Deere tractors and restored classic cars.
He liked making unique items with his hands and was known as a practical joker who liked getting people to laugh. He especially liked spending time with his grandsons and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Elaine, Mason City; a son, Larry (Skeeter) BERDING Jr. and his wife, Lynne, Mason City; a daughter, Linda INMAN and her husband, Steve, Mason City and their sons, Andrew and Mitchell; six brothers, Herman "Bud" and Prudy, LeRoy and Carolyn, Benny and Muriel, Roger and Sharon, Johnny and Marge, and Darrell "Butch" and Carol, all of Mason City; three sisters, Darlene ADAMS, Hayward, Minn., LaVonne BLACKMER and Dean, Mason City, Bonnie REYERSON and Harold, Alden, Minn., Shirley BERDING, Mason City, and Lorraine SAILOR and Craig, Albert Lea, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; his brother, Dale BERDING; and a sister, Beverly CALICCHIA.
