ROCKWELL - Elmer SJOSTRAND, 83, of Rockwell, passed away Monday (March 8, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 12, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rockwell with Pastor Joe DAHLEN officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rockwell Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church today and again one hour prior to the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Elmer was born on Nov. 7, 1926, in Mason City, the son of Carl Edward and Signe (LARSON) SJOSTRAND. He grew up in the Sheffield area and worked on his family's farm. In February 1945, he was inducted into the Army near the end of World War II. He received an honorable discharge in December 1946.

On May 18, 1950, Elmer was united in marriage to Dorothy JENSEN at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rockwell. The couple made their home in Rockwell. he worked at International harvestor for 16 years, then worked in the maintenance department for Cerro Gordo County for 25 years, retiring in 1989.

Elmer was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Rockwell American Legion. He enjoyed tending his garden, fishing and playing cards with his friends. He also liked going out to eat. He especially looked forward to meeting his morning coffee group at Jean's Cafe.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Dorothy, sister-in-law, Betty SJOSTRAND, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, June ROBEOITMAN and Jean BERRY, and brothers, Robert and Donald SJOSTRAND.

Casket bearers were Dennis FULLER, Jim WEAVER, Todd ROBEOLTMAN, Chad ROBEOLTMAN, Roy STRUCHEN and David SJOSTRAND. Honorary casket bearers were Jim POLSDOFER, Ralph McEACHRAN, Larry NUEHRING, Bill NOLTE and Gary FULLER.
