FUNERAL OF AX VICTIM PLANNED FOR SATURDAY

Claude H. Putnam Killed in Yard of Clear Lake Home.

CLEAR LAKE, Nov. 27. - Funeral services for Claude H. PUTNAM, 45, killed in an accident yesterday, will be held at the Congregational church Saturday afteroon at 2 o'clock. Short services will be held at the farm home preceding the services. The Rev. W. B. MILNE, pastor of the Congregational church, will officiate.

Mr. PUTMAN was killed instantly yesterday morning while chopping some long branches in the yard of his home, six miles southwest of Clear Lake. Both Mrs. PUTMAN and her brother, Jesse STRODE, who helps farm the place were in the yard at the time and went to him immediately. A physician was called but death occurred soon after the blow.

Stuck in Log

It is thot (sic) by Mrs. PUTMAN that the ax became stuck in the log and when freed the blunt end swung around and hit him just behind the right ear. Only a small scar on his head showed. Physicians state that Mr. PUTMAN died from the shock of the blow in the motor area of the brain. Witnesses stated that he fell immediately.

Mr. PUTNAM was born in Peoria county, Ill., Jan. 8, 1885. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Nellie Frances, who is a junior in the local high school; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orval PUTMAN; three brothers, Kalfrey PUTMAN, W. D. PUTMAN, B. D. PUTMAN, and two sisters, Mrs. Ray SHAY and Miss Frances PUTMAN, all of Galesburg, Ill. A number of relatives from Galesburg are expected to arrive for the funeral.
