Jacob Alex Rothamel –March 15, 1913 – June 1, 2006

JOHNSTON — Jacob A. “Jake” Rothamel, 93, of Johnston, Iowa, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (June 1, 2006) in Johnston.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, with the Rev. Jon Seda officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the Jacob A. Rothamel Memorial Fund.

Jacob was born on March 15, 1913, on Ellis Island, the son of Martin and Catherine (Baskall) Rothamel. He attended schools in Manly.

Jacob married Isabel K. Rauen on Oct. 4, 1938, in Johnsburg, Minn. They moved to Mason City in 1969. Jacob worked as a conductor for the Rock Island Railroad for 36 years. He retired in 1976.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Railroad Trainmen. He enjoyed antiques and railroad artifacts and coins.

Jacob is survived by a son, Roger L. Rothamel, and his wife, Pat, of Urbandale; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Jacob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Isabel, in 1999; daughter, Cecelia Fox, in 1997; one brother; and two sisters.
