Obituary - Betty Mae Enabnit
February 4, 1924 ~ July 1, 2011Betty Mae ENABNIT, 87 of Clear Lake, died, July 1, 2011, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, IA.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at the Clear Lake Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave North, Clear Lake, with Pastor Curtis McGINNIS officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Swaledale.
Visitation will be held Tuesday July 5, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.
Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Crossroads College, Rochester, Minnesota in her memory.
Betty was born February 4, 1924, in Swaledale, IA, the daughter of Arthur & Helen (ANDERSON) ENABNIT. Betty attended country school thru 8th grade and was a graduate of Clear Lake High School. Following graduation, Betty attended Iowa State Teaching College and Minnesota Bible College. She taught in rural schools for two years.
Betty was a charter member of the Clear Lake Church of Christ and taught extended session to 4-6 year old Sunday School. She was also a member of the Christian Workers Group. Betty taught a neighborhood Bible school and was a missionary in Barbados for a short time. She did a lot of missionary literature and wrote a lot of letters. Betty worked for Mission Services in Joliet, Illinois for 5 years. She was a housemother and job coach at Opportunity Village from 1972-1999, after her retiring she continued volunteer work.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Edith ALSBURY, Mt. Vernon, IA; Ila (Gerhard) BRAUN, Mountain City, TN and Lee Ann (Bill) KURTZ, Klemme, IA; two sisters-in-law, Doris ENABNIT, Clear Lake and Veronica ENABNIT, Mesa, AZ; as well as many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur & Helen ENABNIT, sister, June E. ENABNIT in 1965; two brothers, Jack ENABNIT and Paul ENABNIT and brother-in-law Norman ALSBURY.
