Friday, April 29, 2011Howard F. TAYLOR, 89, of 1615 N. 8th St., Clear Lake, died Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, May 3, at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Diana HOOVER officiating. Inurment will take place at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Howard TAYLOR Memorial Fund.
Howard was born July 15, 1921 and raised on a farm near Dallas Center, Iowa. He was the first born of seven children to parents, Harry Edwin and Hazel Evelyn (GIFT) TAYLOR. He graduated from Dallas Center High School in 1939 and moved to Swaledale, Iowa with his family in 1945.
Howard and Elaine Joyce PETER were married June 28, 1947 in the bride's father's home near Swaledale. They raised five children, Kathleen, Barbara, Norman, Rex, and Joyce, while farming first, near Swaledale and last, near Hanlontown, Iowa after their move March 1, 1960.
After retiring from farming in 1980, Howard and Elaine moved to Forest City, Iowa for three years and then to Clear Lake.
Howard enjoyed many hobbies, including calligraphy, woodworking, geneology, gardening, and using his computer.
Howard had been a 4-H leader, a member of the Swaledale School Board, a member and a past president of Hanlontown Community Club, member of their Christian Home-Builders Sunday School Class from Manly, Iowa. He was a very active NFO member, a member of Men's Garden Club of Northern Iowa, the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Worth County Pork Producers, and a volunteer at Opportunity Village Store for the past several years.
He was a devoted husband, parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent.
Howard is survived by his wife, Elaine; four children: Kathleen (Peter) TOLLENAERE, Fairfield, Iowa; Norman TAYLOR, Hanlontown, Iowa; Rex (Connie) TAYLOR, Hanlontown, IA; and Joyce (Bill WELP) TAYLOR, Marshalltown, IA; son-in-law Ron DELLIT, Grundy Center, IA; nine grandchildren: Marilyn (Brent) ASKELSEON, Marion, IA; Bradley (Andrea) DELLIT, Waterloo, IA; Stacy (Corey) BROWN, Sioux Rapids, IA; Sara (Ryan) HAGEN, Hanlontown, IA; Scott TAYLOR, Des Moines; Cheryl (Kyle) DYER, Omaha, NE; Keith (Kim) TOLLENAERE, Mt. Pleasant, MI; Madalyn (Dan FRANKS) TAYLOR, Hanlontown; and Meggie TAYLOR, Hanlontown, and eleven great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Brady ASKELSON, Landon, Connor and Kennedy BROWN, Cole HAGEN, Linus and Ada DYER, and Maya, Isabel, and Hayden TOLLENAERE; brothers Gordon TAYLOR and Donald (Betty) TAYLOR, both of Mason City, IA; and sister Marilyn (Warren) CUSTER, Hugo, OK; sisters-in-law Shirley TAYLOR, Tucson, AZ; and Marge TAYLOR, Madeira Beach, FL; and also by sister-in-law Melicent AMES, Swaledale, IA; and brother-in-law Stanley (Miriam) PETER, Garner, IA.
Preceeding him in death were his parents, Harry and Hazel TAYLOR; brothers Alan, Ralph, and Wendell; sister-in-law Eva TAYLOR; brother-in-law Marvin PETER; and daughter, Barbara DELLIT.
He was loved by each of us and will be greatly missed.
