Obituary - Martha (Huesinga) Schroeder

Martha SCHROEDER, age 98, of Mason City, Iowa, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa, was born the daughter of Harm and Jessie (HARTEMA) HUESINGA on December 14, 1907, German Township, Ackley, Iowa. She received her education at a rural country school near her home. Martha was united in marriage with William SCHROEDER on April 26, 1928, in Ackley, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Ackley. They moved to a farm northeast of Parkersburg in the late 1930's and retired in 1967, when they moved to town.

Martha was a member of the First Congregational Church in Parkersburg, where she attended the Ladies Guild for many years. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and taking care of her vegetable and flower gardens. In her earlier years she enjoyed going fishing with William to their favorite place at Little Rainy Lake in Backus, Minnesota. Her family especially remembers her home made bread and all of her wonderful home cooked meals.

Martha died on Thursday, January 26, 2006, at her daughter, Mary's home in Mason City, Iowa, from complications of pancreatic cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William SCHROEDER on October 4, 1978; one daughter, Anna Mae Van HOVE; two grandsons, Mark and Larry CONRADS; four brothers, George, Able, Martin and Herman; and five sisters, Tina, Jenny, Jesse, Grace and Anna.

Martha is survived by one son, Bill (Madonna) SCHROEDER of Parkersburg, IA; three daughters, Jessie (Robert) WUBBENA of Butler Center, Allison, IA, Dorothy (Jake) CONRADS of Crestwood, IL and Mary (Richard) SQUIER of Mason City, IA; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, James (Bonnie Sue) Van HOVE and their children Nathan & Kyle, Joyce (R Jay) ENNIS and their children, Heather FRENCH and children, Dillon WILLIAMS & Paije SLETTEN, Chad (Michelle) FRENCH and their children, Ethan & Brianna; Stan (Thea) WUBBENA and their children, Whitney & Nicole; Lori DARLING and her son, Andrew, Julie CONRADS, Janet CONRADS; Jeff SQUIER; Peggy (Curt) SMEINS and their daughter, Bailey, Shawn (Jodi) SCHROEDER and their children, Jessica, Josie and Brooklyn; one sister, Katie STOCKDALE of Aplington, IA; a son-in-law, Ben (Mildred) Van HOVE of Hampton, IA; and one sister-in-law, Martha HUESINGA of Hampton, IA.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2006 at the First Congregational Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, both in Parkersburg, Iowa. Officiating was Rev. Paul SCHAEDIG. Organist was Mary Ann SIMON. Jan JOHNSON and Chuck JUEL sang a duet of "What a Friend We Have In Jesus." Congregational Hymns were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." Casketbearers were Stan WUBBENA, James Van HOVE, Jeff SQUIER, Shawn SCHROEDER, John SCHNEIDERMAN and Richard BROUWER.

Memorials may be directed to the family. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
