Obituary - Meryl "Darlene" R. (Pommerening-Rice) Rogers

Clear Lake, IA - Meryl Darlene R. ROGERS, 97, formerly of Clear Lake, IA, died Sunday, September 17, 2006 at the Iowa Odd Fellows Home, Mason City, IA. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, September 28, 1:30 PM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA, with Pastor Tom HEALEY officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the service. Their will be an inurnment at the Clear Lake Cemetery at Noon on Thursday for family and friends. Memorials maybe given to the Darlene R. ROGERS Memorial Fund.

Darlene was born in Iowa City on November 15, 1908, the daughter of Meta POMMERENING of Algona, IA. As an infant she was adopted by Andrew J. and Estella (MILLER) RICE of Floyd Township, Iowa. Darlene graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1928, attended Hamilton Business School and worked at the Peoples Gas and Electric for 12 years. September 29, 1940, she married Dr. Kingsley R. ROGERS in Clear Lake. Darlene was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, a Past Noble Grand of the Rebekahs, a member of the Crescent Club and the First Congregational Church, all of Clear Lake.

Darlene is survived by two sons, Richard R. ROGERS of Clear Lake and John D. (June) ROGERS of Burlington, Iowa, and one daughter, Mary (Gary) MARSHALL of Conoga Park, California. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Barbara MARSHALL CURTISS, Darcy MARSHALL, JoAnn MARSHALL, Sue ROGERS FOSTER and her husband Robert, Stephen (Jennifer) ROGERS, Kathrine ROGERS, Janette ROGERS and Jason (Rebecca) ROGERS, six great-grand-children, one great-great-grand child, and nieces and nephews.

Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, adoptive parents, husband, half-sister, Virginia (Amish) HERMAN, adoptive brothers Earl, Ray and Elmer RICE, adoptive sisters Adelaide WALLACE and Anna POTTER and granddaughter, Sandra MARSHALL REBBECK.
