DOUGHERTY - Edward Carl NOSS was remembered Tuesday as a kind man and a good neighbor by residents of Dougherty, town where he spent his whole life.

NOSS, 82, died Tuesday morning at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn., of injuries received April 16 in a farm accident north of Dougherty.

"He'll be missed by all of us," said neighbor Lucille McKIGNEY, 93. "I've known him all my life," she said. "He lived right across the field from me."

They both attend St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

NOSS and his wife, Jeri, had just recently returned from Arizona, where they spend winters, McKIGNEY said.

He was preparing to handle some grain when a grain auger fell on him, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Department reported. Others at the scene were able to remove the auger.

NOSS was helping out his son, Kevin, who farms near Dougherty, said Cerro Gordo County Supervisor Phil DOUGHERTY, who is also a Dougherty farmer.

"He was always willing to help out," DOUGHERTY said. He said Noss was slender and in good shape. "If you did not know him, you would think he was a much younger man."

Dennis CAMPBELL, rural letter carrier at Dougherty, said NOSS was "a great guy."

"He worked hard every day. Farming was his life. He was constantly outside doing something."
