DUMONT - Brandon Keith AYERS, 21, of Dumont, died Thursday (Jan. 26, 2006) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton from injuries suffered from a homicide.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Dumon Reformed Church with Robert AYERS and the Rev. Robert SCHOLTEN officiating. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Dumont.

Brandon was born Aug. 25, 1984, in Mason City, the son of Brian and Denise (COLLINS) AYERS. He graduated from the Sheffield High School.

He worked construction with his grandfather, Richard COLLINS.

Brandon enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycles and cars. He also had his black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

He is survived by his mother, Denise, and her husband, Troy DURYEE, of Alden; his father, Brian AYERS, of Dumont; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Cheryl COLLINS, of Dumont; his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Sheryl AYERS, of Bristow; sister, Tara, of Alden; uncle, David AYERS, of Bristow; uncle, Jamey AYERS; aunt, Tami HOWEY, of Bristow; aunt, Doreen PRICE, of Mukwonago, Wis.; maternal great-grandparents, Haldon and Ollie COLLINS, of Dumont, and paternal great-grandmother, Shirley HANSEN, of Aredale.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents and paternal great- grandparents.

Brandon Keith Ayers

Brandon Keith AYERS, 21, of Dumont, Iowa, went home to Jesus on January 26, 2006, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. He was born August 25, 1984, in Mason City, Iowa, to Brian and Denise (COLLINS) AYERS.

Brandon graduated from the Sheffield High School. He worked side by side doing construction with his grandfather Richard COLLINS. We will always have reminders of Brandon and Grandpa's hard work all over Butler County.

Brandon enjoyed boating, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycles, especially Harley's and he enjoyed driving his car. He was also very proud that he had his Black Belt in Taekwondo.

Brandon was a very special person. He was very loyal to his friends and he loved his family, he would never end a phone conversation or leave without telling his family that he loved them and giving them a hug.

Brandon came to know the Lord Jesus Christ in April of 1999, while attending Gospel Meetings in Aredale.

Brandon will be missed every single day by his family that loved him so very much; his mother Denise & husband Troy DURYEE and sister Tara of Alden, father Brian AYERS of Dumont, maternal grandparents Richard & wife Cheryl COLLINS of Dumont, paternal grandparents Kenneth & wife Sheryl AYERS of Bristow, uncle David AYERS of Bristow, uncle Jamey AYERS of Bristow, aunt Tami HOWEY of Bristow, aunt Doreen PRICE of Mukwonago, Wisconsin, maternal great-grandparents Haldon & wife Ollie COLLINS of Dumont, paternal great-grandmother Shirley HANSEN of Aredale.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, and paternal great grandparents.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday January 30, 2006 at the Dumont Reformed Church with Allan Christopherson and Rev. Robert Scholten officiating. Music was provided by organist, Jim Siebrands, and songs “Held” by Natalie Grant, "Homesick" by Mercy Me, "Go Rest High” by Vince Gill, and "Just Beyond The River Jordan" and "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me.

Pallbearers were Gary PICE, David AYERS, Jamey AYERS, Kurt LEWIS, Nicholas PRICE and Dustin AYERS.

Final resting place was in the Dumont Cemetery with Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Accused killers plead innocent in Butler County
ALLISON - Two young men accused of murder pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Butler County District Court.

Kevin TUPPER, 19, and Shannon HAMMONS, 18, of Dumont, are charged with first-degree murder for the January death of Brandon AYERS, 21. TUPPER and HAMMONS also pleaded innocent to intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

TUPPER also pleaded innocent to attempted murder. HAMMONS pleaded innocent to willful injury. Both charges are felonies.

The charges stem from an incident at a mobile home in Dumont were HAMMONS lived with his girlfriend, Heather SCHOENWOLF. Court documents allege HAMMONS and TUPPER shot a rifle at a vehicle driving by the residence, smashing the car window. AYERS and another occupant were inside.

After the shooting, an altercation developed pitting TUPPER and HAMMONS against AYERS and his friend, Derik EVANS. AYERS died.

Trial is scheduled for May 23. TUPPER and HAMMONS face life in prison.

Man Pleads Guilty in Connection with Dumont Murder
BUTLER COUNTY - Two men pleaded guilty in connection with a Butler County murder.

The county attorney's office reports Kevin TUPPER, 20, admitted to shooting and stabbing Brandon AYERS in his Dumont trailer home back in January. TUPPER pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter while using a dangerous weapon, willful injury, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. He could spend up to 25 years in prison.

Shannon HAMMONS admitted to shooting at the trailer and stabbing another man inside the trailer. HAMMONS could spend up to 15 years in prison.

The two will be sentenced next month.

Murder trial canceled;
plea agreement reached in Butler County case
ALLISON — Two Butler County men reached plea agreements today in connection with the death of Brandon AYERS, 21, of Dumont in January.

Kevin M. TUPPER, 19, and Shannon Hammons, 18, were scheduled to go to trial in Cerro Gordo County next week.

TUPPER was charged with first-degree murder. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter while using a dangerous weapon; willful injury causing bodily injury; and intimidation with a dangerous weapon by aiding and abetting.

HAMMONS was charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and willful injury causing bodily injury.

TUPPER faces a possible 25 years in prison with a madatory five-year sentence because of the use of a weapon.

HAMMONS faces up to 15 years in prison if his sentences run consecutively and up to 10 years if they run concurrently.

Sentencing is set for Monday, Sept. 25, in Butler County.

Doug HAMMERAND, an assistant attorney general, assisted Butler County Attorney Greg LIEVENS with the prosecution.

Court documents allege that HAMMONS, who lived in the mobile home with his girlfriend, and TUPPERS shot a rifle at a vehicle "driving outside his residence," smashing the car window with AYERS and another occupant inside.

An altercation followed in which AYERS was also stabbed, according to LIEVENS.

Sentencing continued in death of Dumont man
ALLISON — The sentencing of two men on charges related to the death of Brandon AYERS of Dumont has been continued to Oct. 4.

Kevin M. TUPPER, 20, Dumont, and Shannon HAMMONS, 19, Dumont, were to be sentenced Monday in Butler County District Court. However, TUPPER'S attorney requested a continuance due to a conflict.

TUPPER and HAMMONS both reached plea agreements in the case last month.

TUPPER, originally charged with first-degree murder, pleaded guilty to three lesser felony charges: voluntary manslaughter while using a dangerous weapon, willful injury causing bodily injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon by aiding and abetting.

HAMMONS pleaded guilty to intimidation with a dangerous weapon and willful injury causing bodily injury.

Court documents allege HAMMONS and TUPPER shot a rifle at a car occupied by AYERS, 21, and another man outside HAMMONS' mobile home in Dumont on Jan. 26.

During an altercation that followed, TUPPER allegedly stabbed AYERS in the neck with a knife, which caused his death.

TUPPER and HAMMONS remain in the Butler County Jail until sentencing.

Prison Time for Men in Dumont Murder Case
AP - Two Dumont men have been given prison sentences for killing a man.

Kevin TUPPER and Shannon HAMMONS reached a plea agreement in August in which prosecutors lessened the charges against them. They were arrested after Brandon AYERS was killed January 26 following a fight in a mobile home in Dumont.

TUPPER will spend up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter while using a dangerous weapon, willful injury causing bodily injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

HAMMONS was sentenced to up to 15 years after pleading guilty to intimidation with a dangerous weapon and willful injury causing bodily injury.

TUPPER and HAMMONS were accused of shooting a rifle at a car driving outside the mobile home, smashing a window in the car that carried AYERS and another occupant.

The altercation in which AYERS died apparently followed the shooting.
