Obituary - Ruth (Lindseth) Abrams

Ruth ABRAMS, 80, of Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, Mason City. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 11 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird KORTH officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 14, from 4 - 7 p.m. at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Interment services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be given to the Ruth ABRAMS Memorial Fund.

Ruth was born April 18, 1927 in Erskine, Minn., the daughter of Einar H. and Ida Elvina (OLSON) LINDSETH. She graduated from Erskine High School in 1944. She married Melvin ABRAMS on Oct. 23, 1945. They moved to the Thornton, Iowa area where they raised their four children on a farm until 1962. After farming, Melvin formed the ABRAMS Construction Company, where Ruth served as the office manager. After the children were grown, Melvin and Ruth moved to Mason City where Ruth continued her education by completing college accounting classes. She became employed as a bookkeeper for a service supply company as well as continuing her own accounting business for over 10 years. Shortly thereafter she followed her passion by starting a sewing business called "Ruth's Sewing Basket." She was well known for wedding dresses, prom dresses, and adornments for local sports, college, and professional uniforms.

Ruth loved doing crafts, playing music, gardening and traveling with Melvin, her husband of nearly 60 years. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Ventura, where she served as the former church organist, sang for many years in the choir, and volunteered with the church ladies aide group.

At the time of her passing she was surrounded by all her loving children and a number of grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her four children; Bruce ABRAMS, Cedar Rapids, IA, Gary ABRAMS and his wife Laura, Bloomington, MN, Diane SCHINAGEL, Clear Lake, IA and Gloria ABRAMS, Marshalltown, IA, four grandchildren; Beau SCHINAGEL, Nichole SCHINAGEL, Jeremy ABRAMS and his wife Lofan and Josh ABRAMS and his wife Julianna, six great-grandchildren; Jahnya SCHINAGEL and Tirrell HOPKINS, Cael and Camryn ABRAMS, Sedona and Finley FORSBERT. Ruth will be missed by her three brothers; Eivind LINDSETH and his wife Marlys, McIntosh, MN, Nels LINDSETH and his wife Ellen, Erskine, MN and Walter LINDSETH and his wife Mary, Erskine, MN, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Melvin, Oct. 21, 2004.
