Obituary ~ Jerold Elmer "Jerry" Hathaway
Jerold HATHAWAY, 73, of Latimer, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at his home. Memorial services will be held 3:00 P.M., Thursday at Retz Funeral Home, Thornton with Mr. Red HAUGLAND presiding.
Jerry was a very hard working man and took very good care of his family; he would help anyone who needed help asking for nothing in return.
Jerold Elmer HATHAWAY was born July 3, 1937 at Muscatine, Iowa a son of Charles Raymond and Gertrude (PECK) HATHAWAY. He attended Muscatine public schools.
Jerold served in the United States Army at the end of the Korean War.
Jerry worked as a skilled mechanic for 46 years, owning his own business in Moline, IL for many of those years. After he retired he moved to the Thornton area and drove truck for four years for FS in Thornton. In April 2007 he bought the bar in Thornton and Westy's opened.
On March 14, 1971 Jerry married Z. Louise WAKELAND at Rock Island, Illinois.
Jerry was a life member of the VFW, American Legion, Eagles, Moose and Elks Lodges. He liked bowling, fishing, gardening and woodworking. He greatly enjoyed the Sunday afternoon pool matches with close friends Denny PASTOUR and Don JENSEN. He is remembered as a Jack-of-all-trades and a Master Mechanic who worked hard his entire life.
Missing him dearly will be his wife, Louise; children: Jerry HATHAWAY, Jr. (Kathy), Carol (David) HOLLADAY, Mark HATHAWAY, Steven (Cindy) WESTERMAN, Robert WESTERMAN; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sisters: Clara HATHAWAY and Patricia (Jim) FISCHER.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother: Charles Ray; sisters: Doris & Melva and brother Bill.
Retz Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
