Obituary - Darlene M. (Benton) DeMaris
Mason City- Darlene M. DeMARIS 75, of 17396 Kingbird Ave. died Thursday August 4, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday August 8, 2005, at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel 126 3rd Street N.E. Mason City with Reverend Sam HAMILTON-POORE officiating. Graveside services will be in the Manly Cemetery 10 a.m. Tuesday August 9, 2005. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel 126 3rd Street. N.E., Mason City. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service Monday.
Memorials may be directed to Darlene M. DeMARIS Memorial Fund.
Darlene M. DeMARIS was born September 25, 1929 in Northwood, Ia, the daughter of Walter and Mable (NORRIS) BENTON. Darlene and her family lived in Northwood until she was 4 years old, they then moved to Manly, where she and her sisters Marie, Virginia, and Ginger attended the Manly School System. In 1946 Darlene was united in marriage to Donald PORTIS of Mason City they lived there for 21 years, to this union four children were born, Steve, Mike, Donna, and Debra. Darlene and Donald were divorced in 1967. She was then united in marriage to Arvid "Bud" DeMARIS, where they made their home in Fertile, Ia., to this union two children were born, Cathy and Brian. They moved back to Manly, where they lived until Bud's death in 1997. Darlene moved to Lincoln, NE, and lived with her daughter Cathy and her husband Phil. In 2005 Darlene's health brought her back home to Mason City, where she lived at the Willow Pointe Assisted Living facility.
Darlene is survived by her children, Donna CORELL (Gary EGGERTH), of Clear Lake, Debra (Chad) VORCE, of Doniphan, MO, Cathy (Phil) GIELENFELD, of Mason City, Brian (Cheryl) DeMARIS, of Jesup, Ia, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren she loved dearly, four step-sons, Jack (Deb) DeMARIS, of Hanlontown, Bob DeMARIS, of Mason City, Rick DeMARIS, of Mason City, and Tim DeMARIS, of Mason City, sisters-in-law from both marriages, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mable BENTON, husband Arvid "Bud" DeMARIS, two sons Steve and Mike PORTIS, one sister Marion "Virginia" SUBY, and one step-son Jay DeMARIS.
The family of Darlene DeMARIS would like to extend a thank you at this time to the doctors and nurses from the critical care unit at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, for taking such good care of their mother during her illness. The nurses went beyond their job in making the family comfortable during that time. Words can't express how much that means to our family, once again we thank you from our hearts, Darlene's children, Donna, Deb, Cathy, and Brian.
