Monday, June 16, 2009Marion V. CASEY, 90, Burbank, Calif., formerly Mason City, Iowa, died Monday, June 16, 2008 at Bleu Château Nursing Home, Burbank. A Memorial Mass was held Saturday, June 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Craig E. STEIMEL officiating. Inurnment was at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. Memorials may be given in her name to the Mason City Public Library, Newman Catholic Schools or Camp Tanglefoot.
Marion was born Sept. 28, 1917 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Albert and Veroncia Francis (FAEHTKE) VODICK. She graduated from Glenbard High School, Glen Ellyn, Ill. in 1935. She graduated from St. Mary's College, South Bend, Ind. in 1939 with a history degree. She took graduate courses in teaching criteria at Northern Illinois, DeKalb, Ill.
Marion married Richard D. CASEY, Sr. on Nov. 8, 1941 in Glen Ellyn.
Marion owned and operated CASEY Drug Co. in Mason City and Clear Lake with her husband Richard from 1946 – 1975. Following her husband's death, she owned and operated CASEY Drug Co. from 1975 – 1986. Marion enjoyed University of Iowa and Notre Dame football, she was an avid sports fan, and voracious reader. She enjoyed cards and cribbage, and was an extensive world traveler. Marion was known to be a gracious host, great cook and her brownies will be missed by all.
Marion was a member of St. Joseph's Parish for over 60 years, P.E.O., Girl Scouts of America, Clear Lake Yacht Club, several book clubs, bridge clubs, OT, and the Mason City Country Club.
Marion is survived by her children, Susan D'AMICO and her husband, Richard, Tujunga, Calif., Richard CASEY, Jr. and his wife, Bobbie, Clear Lake, Elizabeth CASEY, Santa Clarita, Calif., William CASEY and his wife, Carol, Iowa City, Iowa, and Mary CASEY and her husband, Sal, Tujunga, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth D’Amico and her husband, Patrick, Gregory D'AMICO and his wife, Emily, William CASEY, Bridget CASEY GUTSCHE and her husband, Ted, Steven BARSEVICK, Kaitlin DOUCETTE, and Margaret CASEY; two great-grandchildren, Seth and Veroncia HOUGHTON; brother, Albert VODICKA, Jr. and his wife, Eleanor; sister, Irene MONAGHEN; sister-in-law, Ann CASEY JOHNSTONE and many nieces and nephews.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; two sisters; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City, was in charge of arrangements.
