Obituary - Roger F. "Jake" Jacobsen

CLEAR LAKE -- Roger F. "Jake" JACOBSEN, 62, of 1804 W. Seventh Ave. N., died Tuesday (Dec. 10, 1996) of complications of a rare illness called Shy-Drager disease.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kermit ROISEN officiating. There will be no visitation prior to services.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of North Iowa or Clear Lake Public Library.

Roger was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Humboldt, the son of Jens and Helena (SONDEGAARD) JACOBSEN. He graduated from Paton High School in 1952.

Roger married Carol CALVERT on Feb. 14, 1953, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Roger had worked for Fareway Grocery for over 30 years and the last 20 years in the Clear Lake Fareway store as meat market manager and retired in 1990 due to his illness.

Roger enjoyed many hobbies including reading, fishing, woodcarving, playing bridge and gardening. He really enjoyed his cat, Otis.

For many years, he was a member of Minnesota Woodcarving Association and Men's Bridge Club. Roger was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, and Clear Lake Noon Lions.

Roger is survived by his wife, Carol JACOBSEN, of Clear Lake; two children, Darcy HOOK and her husband, Steve, of Mason City, and Thomas JACOBSEN and his wife, Sook, of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Stephanie HOOK, Sean HOOK, Mujigae JACOBSEN and Peri JACOBSEN; and two brothers, Leslie JACOBSEN and his wife, Eunice, of Spencer, and the Rev. Leonard JACOBSEN and his wife, Evelyn, of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert JACOBSEN.
