Obituary - Augusta E. (Hagen) Bergman

MASON CITY -- Augusta E. BERGMAN, 99, of Mason City, died Monday (Dec 9, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David ANDERSON officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today at the Fullerton Patterson James Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the St. James Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Augusta was born on March 19, 1897, in Rockwell, the daughter of John F. "Fred" and Anna (MELLIS) HAGEN. She received her education in Rockwell where she grew up.

At any early age, she was employed by Dr. William EGLOFF Sr.

On Dec. 10, 1919, she was united in marriage to William A. "Bill" BERGMAN in Rockwell by the Rev. Wiliam ENGELKE.

In 1920 they moved to their present home in Mason City.

During World War II, Augusta volunteered for the American Red Cross and received a certificate of award from the National American Red Cross on Jan. 1, 1946, which was signed by then President Harry S. TRUMAN for her special volunteer services to the Cerro Gordo Chapter.

Augusta was a member of St. James Lutheran Church since 1919 and a member of the St. James Ladies Aid. She was also a 67-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the retired Federal Employees Auxiliary and a former member of the Hawkeye Movie Makers Club.

She enjoyed sewing for relatives and friends and baking and will be especially remembered for her pies.

Augusta is survived by her special niece, Ruth and her husband, James O'DONNELL and their children, Kirk and Susan and families as well as other special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, on June 12, 1976; her parents; two brothers, Fred and John; four sisters, Frieda BROERS, Hannah WEERS, Mary BRIDGEFORD, Anna BRUNS; and many nieces and nephews.
