Laurence Popp

July 1, 1895 – August 6, 1973

Manly, IA - Funeral services for Laurence R. Popp, 78, who died Monday, August 6, 1973 at a Rochester, MN hospital, will be at 10 AM Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Slepicka as celebrant.

Visitation will be at the Bride Colonial Chapel until the time of services. A parish rosary will be recited at 8 PM Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manly.

Born July 1, 1895, at Plymouth, he was the son of John and Katie Fitzl Popp. He attended rural schools at Plymouth. On February 6, 1918, he was married to Anna Cholick in Lakefield, MN. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad for a number of years. He later farmed for about 16 years in the Plymouth area, moving to Rochester in 1955, where he was employed by Wade’s Broiler until retiring in 1971. He was a member of the St. Pious X Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Laurence, Mason City; Clarion, Byron, MN; four daughters, Mrs. Ben (Genevieve) Carlin, Sweet Home, OR, Mrs. Dolores Boye, Reedsport, OR, Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Acela, Des Moines, IA; Mrs. Dorothy McCallum, Rochester, MN; 25 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five brothers, John, Manly, Rudolph, Edward and Walter all of Mason City; Dave, Nekoosa, WI six sisters, Mrs. Anne Weaverling, Osage, Mrs. Martha Paul, Mason City; Mrs. Herschel (Bertha) Wofford, Summersville, MO; Mrs. Ed (Katherine) Kollmann, Osage; Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Van Hoosier, Davenport; and Mrs. Josie Stangler, Manly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two daughters.
