Obituary - Blanche Bernice (Albee) Phipps

Watseka, Illinois

Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist church here for Mrs. Blanche Bernice PHIPPS, 56, who died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1959, about 11 a.m. at her home at 309E. Elm St., Watseka [Illinois]. Death was attributed to a sudden heart attack.

The Rev. Walter H. TEESDALE, pastor of the church, officiated and burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Watseka. The body lay in state at the church for one hour before the rites.

Mrs. PHIPPS was born January 13, 1903, at Thornton, Ia., daughter of David Perry and Margaret ELBERT ALBEE, and was married on Monday, October 8, 1923, to Roy James PHIPPS in Watseka.

Surviving are the husband; a son, Donald Wayne PHIPPS of Galesburg; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Betty) ALHGREN of Washington, Ill.; five grandchildren, Donald Allen, Catherine Ann and Carole Sue PHIPPS, and Gary Wayne and Lynn Diane ALHGREN; her mother, Mrs. Margaret HARDMEIER of Tremont; two brothers, Harold ALBEE of Fairbury and Francis ALBEE of Gillman; and two sisters, Mrs. Marie OVERACKER of PiperCity and Mrs. Gertrude KURTENBACH of Peotone.

Mrs. PHIPPS spent her childhood in Chatsworth and attended schools there, establishing residence in Watseka in 1931. For years she engaged in sales in Watseka women's wear stores. Her husband is employed in the circulation department of The Iroquois County Daily Times.

Mrs. PHIPPS was member of the First Methodist church here, the Royal Neighbors of America, the Watseka Business & Professional Woman's club and president of the Fortnighty Circle of the church.
