Obituary - Charles Patrick Crowley

Charles Patrick CROWLEY, 84, died Sunday afternoon, August 19 [1979], at a Mason City hospital. He was born at Ossian to John F. and Catherine (SPINNER) CROWLEY on May 7, 1895.

The family later moved to Mason City where he attended St. Joseph Catholic School. He later worked for the Milwaukee Railroad.

He married Lottie CHALUPNICK July 9, 1917 at Mason City. He served with the U.S. Army during WWI. He returned to Mason City where he had an interior painting and decorating company. During WWII he served with the U.S. Maritime Service in the South Pacific. Mr. and Mrs. CROWLEY lived in Clear Lake since 1954.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, WWI Barracks and had been serving on the All Veterans Social Center Golf Board. He was also a member of the Mason City Senior Chamber of Commerce and the Elk's Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Lottie, a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Colleen) JOHNSON, Mason City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Barney, Port Richey, Fla., and Frank, Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Florence SYKES, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Mazel HUTSON, Mason City, and Mrs. Irene KUSMUIZ, Chicago.

He was preceded in death by a son, Howard CROWLEY, Mason City, in 1977.

Services were held at St. Patricks Catholic Church today [Wednesday, Aug. 22] at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. James F. DELAY officiated. Interment was in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene BILTOD, Robert GRABINSKI, John JAMES, James RANSON, Robert HUMPHREY, Ed KRAUSE, Jack FURLEIGH and Richard DUNN. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of the services.
