Obituary - John Moorehead
John MOOREHEAD was born in County Down, Ireland, April 5, 1827. When he was about twenty-four-years-old [1850], he came to America, remaining in Syracuse, N.Y. for two years. From thence he went to Cherry Valley, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Miss Ann KEW April 22, 1858. In 1868 Mr. and Mrs. MOOREHEAD moved to Clay County, Iowa, where they took a homestead, making their home there for fourteen years. In the spring of 1882, they came to Rockwell, Iowa, buying a home here from whence Mr. MOOREHEAD passed to the eternal world December 7, 1911.
In his last hours he longed to see his favorite niece, Mrs. Levi WHITMORE of Cherry Valley, Illinois. She arrived a few minutes before his death and he had the satisfaction of conversing with her before his spirit took it's departure to the realm of immortal souls.
Mr. MOOREHEAD united with the Free Will Baptist church sixty years ago. Soon after coming to Rockwell he and his wife united with the Methodist Episcopal church. He was a man of sterling qualities, a sincere Christian who carried his religion into every day life. He was of kind and cheerful disposition, being loved by all who knew him.
To Mr. and Mrs. MOOREHEAD nine children were born, six daughters and three sons. The daugherts have all passed into the Beyond. The three sons remain, George, Frank and Bert, two of whom reside near Rockwell and one near Swaledale. There are living fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. MOOREHEAD survives her husband. These, together with other relatives and many friends, mourn his loss.
