Ralph Hogan dies at 78; rites pending

Ralph J. HOGAN, 78, life-long resident of Cerro Gordo County and funeral director in Dougherty and Mason City, died Thursday [September 17, 1970] at his home, 126 3rd NE.

Funeral arrangements for Mr. HOGAN are incomplete at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel. [Interment was made at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty, Iowa.]

He was born Jan. 12, 1892, in Dougherty, the son of John and Mary (MORAN) HOGAN. He attended schools in Dougherty and was graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science Chicago, in 1932.

He married Leonore DOUGHERTY, Nov. 26, 1917, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dougherty. He was a veteran of World War I.

From 1926 to 1949 he owned and operated the Dougherty Hardware Store and the HOGAN Funeral Home in Dougherty. In 1950, he moved to Mason City where he was connected with the Colonial Funeral Home.

He was a member of the American Legion Clausen-Worden Post 101, Iowa Funeral Directors Association, District Eight of the association, Holy Family Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1006.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday until time of services at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel.

Mr. HOGAN is survived by his wife; two sons, Raymond of Dougherty and Charles J. of Mason City; two daughers, Mrs. Marvin D. (Margaret) McKee of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. John (Mary Rose) SCANLON, Exelsior, Minn.; 11 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Nora LAWRENCE, Mason City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.
