DEATH OF MRS. E. P. CARPENTER

Peaceful be thy rest, dear mother,
'Tis sweet to breathe thy name;
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.

After an illness of several months duration, Mrs. E. P. CARPENTER passed away last Saturday afternoon, April 28th.

For nearly two years she had been afflicted with a cancerous growth on her tongue and had been a great and patient sufferer, the last few months unable to talk but little, and not at all for some little time past. A numbers of specialists had been consulted and two operations performed, failing to stop the progress of the dreaded disease.

Minnie Arline ELCE was born June 1, 1866, in Camanche, Clinton Co., Iowa, and died at her home in Clear Lake April 28, 1917. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, Eugene, P. CARPENTER and three children, Verna, Charles and Ethel, a sister, Mrs. J. L. WOLFE, all of Clear Lake, and a brother, Charles E. ELCE, now in Manilla, Philippine Islands.

She was married to Mr. CARPENTER May 19, 1885, in Camanche, Iowa, and moved with her husband to their farm home south of town in October 1888, residing there until March of this year when they moved to Clear Lake.

She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1895, at which time she gave her life to the Saviour's love and care during her long and severe illness.

Mrs. CARPENTER was a woman of many noble traits of character, loved her home and family. She possessed deep spiritual convictions and was a true Christian.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. L. GILLIES.

It was a rainy and blustery day, but the large concourse of friends attending attested the high esteem in which the deceased was held by the people of this community. The floral offerings were many.

Interment was in the Clear Lake cemetery.
