Ex-Pastor, State 'Dean,' Dies at 73

The Rev. R. K. ANDERSON of 125 Commercial, a retired Congregational minister, died at a local hospital [Walla Walla, Washington] Friday [July 15, 1960] at age 73. Funeral services are being planned for Monday.

He is survived by his wife, Louvae at home, and three daughters, Mrs. Dr. Joseph (Louise [sic, should be Lois]) KAYE, Mrs. Floyd (Maralta)OSBORNE, and Mrs. Robert (Gwen) BEARD, all of Walla Wall. He was the brother of Archie ANDERSON of Jackson, Miss., Roscoe of Redding, Calif., Leo of Ontario, Calif., and Mrs. Francis FERGUSON of Stockton, Calif. Also 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

ANDERSON was born Aug. 20, 1886, in Rockfalls, Iowa [the son of Jasper James Thomas and Mary Eliza (PECK) ANDERSON]. He attended schools at Plymouth and Mason City, Iowa. He took his college training at Sioux City, Iowa and from the State University at Lincoln, Neb.

The Rev. Mr. ANDERSON was ordained in 1916 at Stevenson, Wash. He was the oldest Congregational minister in Washington in years served. During his ministry he drew plans for several churches and built three. He was pastor at Anacortes, Wash., for 18 years. He retired three years ago. Ralston, Wash., was his last church.

ANDERSON married Louvae ABRAMS in Boise [Idaho] in 1910.

He was a member of the Congregational Church and a charter member of the Anacortes Kiwanis Club.

Funeral Notice
ANDERSON - Funeral services for the Rev. R. K. ANDERSON of 125 Commercial will be at 3 p.m. Monday, July 18 [1960] at the First Congregational Church. Interment in Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Frederick H. HAAG and Rev. Franklin ELLIOTT officiating. Friends wishing to make a memorial instead of sending flowers, are invited to contribute to a fund to provide an altar for the chapel at N-Sid-Sen youth campin which the Rev. Mr. ANDERSON was much interested. Such memorials may be either through the First Congregational Church or Peace United Church of Christ.
