Obituary - Mary "Doris" (McMenimen) Ward

Mary "Doris" WARD, 86 of 907 West Congress, Nora Springs, formerly of Dougherty and Mason City, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, November 26, 2005, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street Northeast, Mason City, with Reverend Kenneth GEHLING officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty, Iowa.

Doris was born September 3, 1919, at Dougherty, daughter of M. J. and Margaret (HUSS) McMENIMEN. She attended and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School, Dougherty, in 1938. Doris moved to Cedar Rapids during WWII and worked at A & P Store, Century Engineering, and Meetoo Grocery Store for four years. After she moved back to Dougherty, she worked at the Mode O' Day in Mason City for five years. Doris then moved to Mason City and worked at the Piggly Wiggly Grocery Store in Mason City for 17 years, and retired from United Home Bank, Mason City in 1981.

Doris married Garwin "Dyke" WARD on May 31, 1969. They attended Holy Family Catholic Church in their early years and later belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church. They were also both past members of the Moose Lodge in Mason City. After retirement, Doris and Dyke bought a motor home and spent their winters in Texas, California, and Arizona.

Doris loved sewing, traveling, crafts, bowling, going to church, and visiting with family.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Judy (Ron) CALVERT, Nora Springs; step-son, Garvin (Jan) WARD, Mason City; grandchildren, Dan, Jesse, Bob, Jerry, Melissa, Jim, Jeff, Connie, Julie, and Beth; many great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Russell and Kenneth McMENIMEN, Brainard, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, M. J. and Margaret; brothers, Daniel and Francis McMENIMEN; and the love of her life, Dyke, in 2000.
