Obituary - Deane Ellsworth Spilman
MASON CITY — Deane E. SPILMAN, 77, of 716 17th St. N.E., died Friday [May 29, 1998] at home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Joel DAHLEN officiating. The Mason City Veterans Memorial Association will perform the flag folding ritual. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Deane E. SPILMAN Memorial Fund.
Deane E. SPILMAN was born Oct. 26, 1920, to Thomas and Winnie (FRYE) SPILMAN in Clear Lake. He graduated from Clear Lake High School.
He was employed at the Farmers Elevator Co-op in Clear Lake until entering the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. He served in World War II as an [Corporal] airplane and engine mechanic.
Deane returned to Mason City following the war and started his business, SPILMAN Appliance Service. He married Bette Jane BLAHNICK in Appleton, WI on January 1, 1945 and they were the parents of four children; Jayne, Tom, Dee and Lori. He married Shirley GROVER June 9, 1961, in Albert Lea, Minn. He retired in 1990.
Deane was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church and Moose Lodge No. 1328 since 1968.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley SPILMAN, Mason City; three daughters, Jayne and husband, Rick SKIBBA, Hilbert, Wis., Debra and husband, Bruce SIM, Neenah, Wis., and Lori and husband, Ken DOLLEVOET, Fremont, Wis.; two sons, Thomas and wife, Jacki, Green Bay, Wis., and William of Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Lance, Grant, Katie, T.J., Blake, Ann Marie and Daniel; three sisters, Mary GOBELI, Alice SPILMAN, and Norma HOWELL, all of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.
Deane was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas SPILMAN; and one sister, Arlene SPILMAN.
