Later, her family moved to Kensett, Iowa, where her father was a blacksmith. Luella was confirmed at Kensett and graduated from Kensett High School in 1936. They returned to live at Clear Lake following the war.
After her husband's death in 1965, Luella worked as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn in Mason City for 18 years.
Several area families will fondly remember elderly family members being visited and cared for by Luella in their homes and nursing home rooms. Upon her retirement at 70 years of age, Luella enjoyed serving her homemade treats to nursing home residents after escorting them to church services.
