DONALD H. ASBE

MASON CITY - Donald H. Asbe, 75, of Mason City, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2004) at his home.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Maglesson officiating.

There will be no visitation. Private family inurnment will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery Columbarium at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Military rites will be conducted at the church by the Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association or the Salvation Army.

Donald H. Asbe was born on Oct. 8, 1928, in Kensett, the son of Henry A. and Ida E. (Eliason) Asbe. He attended Ventura High School where he completed the 11th grade.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in July of 1950, where he served as an Airman 1st Class in the Korean War until being discharged in July of 1954.

Soon after, Donald moved back to Mason City, and wed Catherine L. Whitney on Nov. 21, 1954.

He was a dedicated, hard working man, serving as a foreman at International Minerals for 21 years. He then served as a mechanic for Lehigh for 21 years until retiring in 1991.

In his retired life, he focused on his family, golfing at Rockford Country Club, as well as fishing at Clear and Leach lakes.

He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

He will be remembered as a kindhearted man who was a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kenneth E. Asbe and his wife, Julie, of Clear Lake, Donna L. Lockrem and her husband, Richard, of Woodbury, Minn., and Bryan K. Asbe and his wife, Lisa, of Mason City; seven grandchildren: Erin, Eric, and Michael Asbe, Justin and Jordan Lockrem, and Jason and Brittany Asbe; one great-grandchild, Hunter Asbe; sisters, Luella Shoop, of Clear Lake, Iona Manuel, of Mason City, Esther Peterson and husband, Carl Robert, of Iowa City, Norma Jean Sweat and husband, Jim, of Merritt Island, Fla., and Doris Kueck, of Neemah, Wis.; brother, Robert D. Asbe, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

Also left behind, his dog Tinker, who provided joy to his busy life

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ida; his sister, Gladys; and his loving wife, Catherine.
