Oscar M. Maring
CLEAR LAKE- Funeral Services will at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N Fourth St., Clear Lake, for Oscar Monroe Maring, 60, of 1314 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, who died Thursday (June 1, 1989), at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City of natural causes.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral chapel.
The body will be donated to medical science after the funeral service.
Memorials may be made to the Clear Lake Public Library.
Mr. Maring was born Dec. 24, 1928, in Lincoln, Kan., to Floyd and Ethel (Chapman) Maring. He graduated from Kansas State University with a chemical engineering degree.
Prior to moving to North Iowa in 1975 he had lived in Columbus Ohio.
Mr. Maring had worked for Schneider Metal Mfg. Co., Mason City until retiring in June 1988, due to ill health.
He was an avid chess and bridge player and received his Bronze Life Master in Duplicate Bridge. He was a chess champion throughout his college years and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Maring, Clear Lake; his children, Mrs. Thomas (Susan) Dellaflora, Columbus, Ohio; Beth Cavanaugh Franz, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs John (Kathryn)McMillan of Elgin; Jane Cavanaugh, St. Louis Park, Minn.; Meg Cavanaugh, Burlington; Kevin and Robert Maring, both of Columbus, Ohio; Robert Cavanaugh, Minneaplois, Minn.; and Bill Cavanaugh, Charles City; 14 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Homer (Velma) Talbot, Exeter, R.I.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
