A. LEE LONG, 69, DIES SUDDENLY AT DES MOINES
Rites to Be Friday at Church of Christ;
Burial in ElmwoodA. Lee Long, 69, for many years a hardware salesman and superintendent of the Church of Christ Sunday school, died at the Veterans hospital at Des Moines Wednesday afternoon about 3 o'clock from a heart ailment. He had been at the hospital since Nov. 2.
Mr. Long was born Dec. 1, 1872, in Warren county, Wis. He moved to Iowa as a child, and lived on a farm in Cerro Gordo county, moving to Mason City when he was about 17 years of age. Except for seven years in Oskaloosa and one year in Oklahoma City he had spent the remainder of his life in Mason City.
After attending the Mason City schools and business college at Des Moines, Mr. Long traveled for hardware houses, including the Huber-Kalbach company of Ottumwa, the Simmons Hardware company of St. Louis, and the Pritzlaff Hardware company of Milwaukee, Wis. For a number of years he was employed at the Currie-Van Ness hardware store and with Sears Roebuck in Mason City.
Mr. Long was married to Miss Genevieve Strickland, Dec. 30, 1896, in Mason City. Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. A. K. Walling, Oskaloosa, Mrs. V.M. Connelly, Mason City, Mrs. J. Russell Prazak, Toronto, Canada, and one son, Arthur L. Long, Glenwood, Minn., and three grandchildren, Barbara and Betty Prazak, Toronto, Canada, and Charles Lee Walling, Oskaloosa.
Mr. Long was a first lieutenant in Co. A of the 52nd Regiment in the Spanish American war. He was chairman of the board of Elders of the Church of Christ and superintendent of the sunday school. He had been a member of the church for 46 years.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. David L. Kratz, pastor of the church, in charge. Burial will be at Elmwood cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Patterson funeral home until 1 o'clock Friday afternoon, when it will be taken to the church.
