John Conrad Ohrt, youngest son of Detlef and Martha Jensen Ohrt, was born July 2nd, 1887 at Dexter, Iowa. His childhood and youth was spent on a farm near Dexter. On August 3rd, 1910 he was married to Delia Louella French.
To this union four children were born; Herbert R. of Mason City, Iowa; Louella Joann, who passed away at the age of 2 ½ months, Robert C. of Oelwein, Iowa, and Jeannette Mae, at home. After 10 years on the farm, he and his family moved off the farm into the town of Dexter, where he worked as a carpenter contractor. He was active in many civic affairs.
In February 1943 the family moved to Mason City, Iowa, where they resided at the time of his death on June 28th, at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 28 days. He was a member of the Masonic order.
He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, daughter and two sons, a brother, P. M. Ohrt of Dexter, several nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents, three sisters, Mrs. Johnannah Clausen, Mrs. Anna Blohm and Christine F. Ohrt.
The funeral service was held at Dexter Methodist church with the pastor and members of the Masonic Lodge officiating. The music was rendered by Mrs. K. M Chapler, The bearers were: A. W Gibson, O. G. Bast, Joe Caudron, H. J. McFarlin, George Atherton and W. N. Curry. The final resting place, the Dexter cemetery.
Note: John’s parents were residents of Madison County in September of 1885 when his brother Peter was born.
