Nancy,
If you have an LDS (Latter Day Saints) genealogical library close by you can ask to use their computer that has free access to Ancestry.com's census data base.

http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=3547

I never had much luck with Ancestry's online data base and always had to order the census microfilms to find my anscestors. There are microfilms that contain an index of all the individuals living in the county and the townships in which they lived. Once you find out this information, you can order that specific microfilm, saving you needless time reeling through unrelated townships. The librarian can show you how to order and use the microfilms. You don't have to be a church member to use the library. Hope this helps.
