In Memoriam
Mrs. Sabina Sliemer [Clymer] Shuck was born in Lebanon county, Pa., May 1st, 1820, and died at her late residence near Clarence, Iowa, June 30th, 1903, aged 83 years, 1 month and 29 days..
She was married to John Shuck in 1838 and was the mother of six sons and four daughters, all born in her native state, where she spent 26 years of her married life in aiding her husband as a loyal wife and loving mother in caring for their children. Finding it difficult in the old home state to make such provision for their children as they wished, they came to Iowa in 1864, living ten years on a farm near Tipton and then bought a farm near Clarence where they lived the remainder of their days..
Mother Shuck was taught in early life to fear the Lord with reverential fear, to obey His word and to serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind. Imbued with these principals she acquired the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which, we are told, is in the sight of God of great price, and this doubtless was the secret of her power to endure afflictions without complaining and the bereavement of a daughter, three sons and her husband without once murmuring or rebelling against the dispensations of an all wise and loving Father. She belonged to that chosen number who through their faith inherited great and precious promises..
To her surviving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren she leaves a legacy of far greater value than gold and more precious than rubies — the memory of an unselfish life devoted to the service of her God and the welfare and happiness of her family and the discharge of her duties and obligations to her fellow beings. Of her we may truly say: “She has finished her course; she has kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give her at that day.” J. K. Bloom.
