Last rites for Mrs. Charles (Dorothy Adel) Whipple, 73, a native of Cedar county, were held at St. Andrew Presbyterian church, Iowa City, Oct. 5 with the Rev. Mark Martin officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Whipple died at her home in Iowa City Oct. 1.
The daughter of Alex and Veral Blaesdale Buchanan, she was born in Cedar county Aug. 30, 1914. She married Charles Whipple in Iowa City Nov. 30, 1941. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in social work. She and her husband owned the Whipple House.
She was a member of St. Andrew's church, where she served as an elder and deacon. She was also a member of the United Presbyterian Women, the Older Iowans Legislature and the JF chapter of PEO.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Jack (Sarah) Fortin, Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Mike (Judy) Cilek and Mrs. Stephen (Nancy) Trefz, both of Iowa City; 2 brothers, Alex Buchanan, Madison, Wis. and Bert Buchanan, Greenville, S.C.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Orv (Marjorie) Miller, Worchester, Mass. and Velma Melcher of California and 7 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Sept. 6, 1985 and by a brother and 3 sisters.
