Last rites for Roger DeWayne Swick, 31, were held at the United Methodist church Sept. 4 with Dr. Jerrold Swinton officiating. Burial was in Muscatine Memorial park cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Stahle, Harlan Hanks, Sam Bierman, Bob Schadt, Jim Liercke and Don Simmons. Honorary bearers were Elmer Wilke, Elmer Peters and Ed Liercke. Patty Niehaus was organist and Ellen Hanks, Jo Schadt and Jan Bierman were in charge of flowers.

Swick suffered a heart attack shortly before 7 p.m. Aug. 31 while returning from work in Cedar Rapids. He apparently became ill and pulled off Iowa 30, just east of the Mt. Vernon Junction. He was taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital by Air care. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The son of Harold C. and Helen Kallenberger Swick, he was born at Davenport Dec. 24, 1952. He was a member of the Tipton high school class of 1971.

He was married to Sheryl K. Reynolds at the Methodist church in Tipton Oct. 17, 1969.

A lifelong resident of Tipton, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Methodist church, Moose Lodge No. 730 and local 537 of the Operating Engineers.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl; 2 sons, Todd and Terry; his mother, Helen Swick, a brother Harold A. (Todd); a sister, Jane Swick Reynolds, Tipton and his grandmother Bessie Putnam, Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his father and 2 brothers.
