Funeral services for Walter T. Wendel, 62, were held at the United Methodist church, Mechanicsville, March 20 with the Rev. Mearle Griffith officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Pallbearers were Glen, David, Douglas, Michael, Steve and Kenneth Weber Jr. Mrs. Calvin Robinson was organist and Mrs. Burl Hunt was vocalist.

Mr. Wendel died at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, March 18.

The son of Nickolaus and Frieda Strauhs Wendel, he was born in Coblenz, Germany Dec. 8, 1921. He came to the United States with his parents in 1922 and received his education in Hawarden schools. He was married to Elvera Weber at Hawarden Oct. 20, 1945. The family farmed near Hudson, SD for 8 years before moving to Mechanicsville in September, 1955. He had been employed by Weber Bros. Construction in Mechanicsville for 27 years.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Lovell, Mechanicsville; 2 sisters, Dorothy Skogman, Hawarden and Maxine Odom, Dennison, TX and 2 brothers, John, Winder, GA and Arthur, Babylon, NY: his father, Nick Wendel, Hawarden and 3 grandchildren.
