Last rites for James Wesley Butler, 70, were held at the West Branch United Methodist church, Jan. 3. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mr. Butler died at his home in West Branch, Dec. 31.

The son of Franklin and Rebecca Crew Butler, he was born in Cedar county, Sept. 2, 1905 and was married to Laura Randall in Iowa City in September, 1945.

He worked for University hospitals. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion at West Branch.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. James (Dorothy) Walker, Atalissa; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Lenora Winn, Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. Bernice Crain, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Margery Pettijohn, Banning, Calif., and 4 brothers, Edwin, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Lester, Altadena, Calif.; Cecil, Ridge Crest, Calif.; and Marvin, West Branch.

He was preceded in death by a sister, 2 brothers and a grandson.
