Last rites for Alfred W. Cary, 83, were held at the Dye Funeral home June 14 with the Rev. Ernest Lauer officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lloyd Siebel, Verle Johnston, Harry Schott, Russell Wethington, Dean Handley and Kenneth Edens. Terri Thompson was vocalist and Mrs. Kenneth Gould organist. Military services were held at the graveside, with the American Legion at Bennett in charge.

Mr. Cary died at his home 6 miles east of Tipton June 9, 20 days after the death of his brother, Harold, with whom he had farmed for many years.

The son of Thomas Hardy and Elizabeth Ann Vicary Cary, he was born at Iowa Falls Jan. 12, 1891. He graduated from Tipton high school in 1909. He was a graduate of Coe college and taught school for a short time in Crawfordsville.. He had lived in the Tipton area since 1896. He never married.

He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the army from May 1, 1917 to Aug. 25, 1919. He served in France for 11 months as a private first class with the 102nd Field Artillery battalion and saw action in the second battle of the Marne, St. Mihiel and at Verdon.

Mr. Cary was a member of the American Legion at Bennett and of Cedar Lodge, No. 11, AF&AM, at Tipton. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.

He is survived by 2 nephews, George and James Cary, both of Tipton and a niece, Sydney Su Link, Beaver Dam, Wis. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
