Final rites for William Hugo Lorence, 78, were held at the Sheets and Son funeral home May 12 with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Neil Carstensen, Donald Ogden, William McQuillen, Thomas and Leo Brennan and Clarence Gritton. Mrs. Max Phelps was organist and Mrs. Leo Brennan and Mrs. Thomas Brennan were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Lorence died at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids May 9, following an extended illness.

The son of Frank and Mary Slopher Lorence, he was born near Solon in Johnson county April 1, 1892. He was educated in the rural school of Johnson county.

He was married to Lucy Davis at Rock Island, Ill. Dec. 15, 1950 and farmed in the Tipton area until he retired.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Leo, Davenport; 2 step-sons, August Hoffner, Marion and Donald Hoffner, Cedar Rapids; 2 stepdaughters, Mrs. Dorothy Wertz and Mrs. Randall (Geraline) Aegerter, both of Cedar Rapids; 23 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Also 4 brothers, John, Marion; Frank, Cedar Point; George, Ely; Gilbert, Cedar Rapids and 2 sisters, Mrs. Emma Shima, Solon and Mrs. Alma Zenishek, Tracy, Calif.

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters.
