Phillip Anthony Wagner, 82, of Iowa City, IA, died peacefully of heart failure on Sunday, April 24th 2022 while at his home with his daughter Phillis, Rod and his grandpups Scooter and Baxter at his side.

On Tuesday, May 3, 2022 Fry Funeral Home will host a Visitation from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 pm.

Immediately following the service, Phillips will be buried at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery.

Phillip, son of Elmer Roscoe and Rose Cecelia (Wiskus) Wagner was born on Saturday, August 5, 1939 in Anamosa, IA. While growing up on the family farm, Phillip attended Coon Creek School and Mechanicsville School. On February 11, 1957, Phillip married the love of his life, Janet Ann Pletcher, in Stanwood, IA. Phillip originally farmed for 5 years then started working the second shift at Land O’Lakes. During his 24 years at Land O’Lakes, Phillip always worked a second job. He drove part time for Elder Implement, managed Imperial Apartments for 12 years, was a security guard at Lear in Iowa City and managed Lake Ridge Mobile Home Park for 14 years. Phillip loved going to Highway Gardens with Janet on Saturday nights, was a huge fan of WWF Wrestling, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He especially enjoyed going to the Hawkeye games with Denny. He also enjoyed watching his FOX news daily and was a collector of Budweiser Clydesdale mugs and hitches. Family remembers Phillip as a man with a big heart and great sense of humor.

Phillip is survived by; daughter, Phillis (Rodney) Westfall of Iowa City, IA; sister, Alma Unruh of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Brandon Wagner, Chris Wagner, Jeramy Wagner, Ashley Kopriva and Nikita Westfall; 8 great-grandchildren; and grand-pups, Scooter and Baxter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Rose; wife, Janet; son, Ronald Wagner; grandson, Nicholas Wagner; twin sister, Phyllis Wendt; and brothers, Donald Duane “Beefie” Wagner, Charles “Chuck” Wagner, and Oliver “Darrell” Wagner.
