February 19, 1970 - The Tipton Conservative

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Chapman, 96, Tipton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the United Methodist church with burial in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Chapman died Feb. 18 at Cedar Manor. Visitation will begin at the Dye Funeral home at 9 a.m. today (Thursday) and the body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Friday.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ada Florence Chapman, 96, were held at the United Methodist church Feb. 20 with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randall and Joey Gehrls, Max Nebergall, Don Welty, Dean Hollingsworth and Melvin Owen. Irma Crawford was organist. The Dye Funeral home was in charge of the service.

Mrs. Chapman died at Cedar Manor Feb. 18, following a long illness.

The daughter of Josiah and Mary Jane Welty Owen, she was born on a farm 6 miles southeast of Tipton Jan. 28, 1874 and was educated in the rural schools of Cedar county. She attended normal school at Fort Scott, Kans. and summer school at Cedar Falls.

She taught in the rural schools in the Tipton area for 13 years.

She was married to C. Ernest Chapman at the Methodist parsonage in Tipton March 10, 1909.

She was a member of the United Methodist church for 50 years and a life member of the WSCS. She attended the Eureka country church and school as a child.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Marion Elizabeth) Gehrls and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Marjorie Alice, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
