Final rites for John Durwood Greig, 53, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Aug. 28) at United Methodist church in Clarence, with burial in the Clarence cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom Hyde, Ellis Stonerook, Kermit Roelf, Paul Chapman, Jack Andrews and Elwood Hasselbusch. Mrs. James Sawyer Jr. is organist and Mrs. Lois Brink, Mrs. Dick Hancock and Mrs. Gene Gray will be in charge of flowers.

Masonic gravesite rites will be by Mt. Hope Lodge No. 501.

Mr. Greig died at Mercy hospital, Cedar Rapids, Aug. 26, following a long illness.

The son of John and Gladys Crow Greig, he was born in Clarence Jan. 3, 1916 and spent his life in the Clarence community. He attended the Clarence school.

He was married to Mary Kay House at St. Paul's Methodist church, Cedar Rapids, June 26, 1942. He was a farmer in the Clarence area for many years and night watchman at Clarence when he became ill.

Mr. Greig was a member of the Methodist church at Clarence, past master of Mt. Hope Lodge, AF & AM, past worthy patron of the Clarence Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Iowa Consistory, Cedar Rapids, and the El Kahir Shrine, Cedar Rapids, where he was a member of the foot patrol.

Active in Scouting, he was an Explorer Scout leader for many years.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Curtis, Waverly; 2 daughters, Jacqueline and Margaret, at home and 3 grandsons.
