MECHANICSVILLE - Gilbert J. Worby, 68, Iowa City, a former resident of Mechanicsville, died at Iowa City Care Center Tuesday afternoon following a long illness.
Services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic church, Mechanicsville, with Rev. P. J. Casey officiating. Burial will be in the Lisbon cemetery with Horner Funeral Service in charge.
The rosary will be recited Thursday (today) at 8 p.m. at the Horner Funeral Home.
Mr. Worby was born March 6, 1901 in Dwight, Ill. to John and Virginia Worby. He was married to Iva Baker at Morrison, Ill. on May 4, 1931. He farmed near Mechanicsville until retiring and moving to Iowa City in 1967.
Survivors are his wife; 4 sons, Darrell of Stanwood, Pvt. Donald Worby of Fort Polk, La., Dean of Iowa City and David, at home; 3 daughters, Mrs. Charles (Fonda) Brannaman, Mechanicsville, Mrs. Raymond (Donna) Cruse, Solon, and Diane, at home; 11 grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother.
