Funeral services for Vernon John Schmitt, 62, were held July 15 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in Memorial park cemetery at Davenport.

Pallbearers were Roy Schwitzer, Gene Sissel, Craig Ditsworth, John Dill, Tom Knouse and Kenneth Schroeder. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Fankhauser were in charge of flowers. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist.

Mr. Schmitt died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, July 11 following a short illness.

He had farmed near Tipton since 1966.

The son of John and Mary Sullivan Schmitt, he was born Jan. 21, 1906 at Muscatine and was educated in the rural schools of Muscatine county. He was married to Ruby Martin at Aledo, Ill. April 11, 1931.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Ronald, Huntington Park, Calif.; 2 brothers, Lyle, Muscatine and Ralph, Davenport and a sister, Mrs. Dale (Gladys) Hudnall, Brodhead, Wis.

He was preceded in death by a son.
