Clare Williams, 81, a life resident of the Tipton community, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 15, at his home. Death came just 12 days following the death of his wife.

Services were held May 18 at Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. E. H. Lauer officiating and burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Mr. Williams was born at Tipton Feb. 28, 1887, the son of Wren and Jennie Williams. He was educated in the Tipton schools and was a retired painting contractor. He was a past member of Manitou Lodge IOOF and the Moose lodge. He served with the militia during the Mexican Border War.

He married Grace Newton at Tipton Feb. 12, 1907.

Survivors include 2 sons, Cyril R. and Darrell N., both of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Hahn, Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ward, and a sister, Mrs. Blanche Lambach, both of Tipton and a nephew, Paul Woods, Assumption, Ill.
