18 April 1968 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for John Edward Gerber, 79, were held April 12 at the Sheets and Son funeral home with the Rev. Lee Griffis officiating. Pauline Jackson and Virgil Griffis were vocalists. Mrs. Edgerton Nix was organist.

Pallbearers were Irvin Kimberling, Gaylord Goodale, Norwin Martens, Ronald Collison, Donald Reeder and Wayne Chapman. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Wethington and Mrs. Ronald Collison were in charge of flowers.

Mr. Gerber died April 9 at Iowa City following a stroke.

The son of John and Elma E. Beltz Gerber, he was born at Guthrie Center Dec. 4, 1888 and was educated in the Cedar county rural schools. He was married to Ilda Griffis at Rock Island, Ill. Oct. 7, 1932.

He had been a resident of Cedar county since 1900 and farmed near Tipton from 1932 until 7 years ago when he retired and moved to Tipton.

He was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Mrs. Harlan (Joan) Thuesen, Cedar Falls and Mrs. Alan (Janet) Ford, Mason City; 5 grandchildren, a brother, Harry, Tipton and a sister, Mrs. Stella Morgan, Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
