Funeral services for Jeanne Ely, 69, Mulberry, Florida and formerly of Tipton, were held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at Rochester Methodist church in Rochester, IA, with funeral rites held at Rochester Cemetery in the family plot.
Mary Jean "Jeanne" was born June 23, 1952 in Muscatine, Iowa to Thomas Thorvald and Barbara Jean Chapman Thomsen. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1970. She married William "Bill" Ely on April 26, 1986, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Jeanne retired from Publix in January of this year. Jeanne loved her kids, family, Mickey Mouse, and baking pies. For the past 16 years, she participated in the American Pie Council's National Pie Championships, which is held yearly in Celebration, FL and at the Florida State Fair, winning numerous awards and prizes. Most notably in 2005, her first competition, she won "Best of Show" and a $5,000 prize in 2005 and "Best of Show" at the 2018 Florida State Fair.
Jeanne will be deeply missed by her husband, William Ely of Mulberry, Florida; daughters Tammy Ramirez, Davenport and Melissa Ely Campbell, Mesa, Ariz.; sons Tony Ramirez, Polk City, FL; Tommy Ramirez, East Moline, Ill.; and Brian Ely, Mesa, Ariz.; sisters Penny Werling of Atalissa, Marie (Larry) McLeod of Central City, and Joleen McGee of Newton; brothers Richard (Connie) of Columbus Junction and John (Jacie) Thomsen of Tipton; brother-in-law Tim (Mar) Ely of Decatur, Georgia; sister-in-law Leigh Ann Thomsen of Moscow; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren with one due next month; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Thomsen; and a son, Tom Ely.
