28 September 1967 - The Tipton Conservative

Last rites for Roger Dale Countryman, 45, a native of Tipton, were held Sept. 23 at the Sheets and Son Funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Burial was in the Tipton Masonic cemetery.

Pallbearers were Marvin Brick, Robert Martin, Charles Cihla, Ray Noeve, Tyrone Bennett and Ronald Brunn. Ernest Courtney was honorary pallbearer. Mrs. Irma Crawford was organist. Mr. and Mrs. John Cihla were in charge of flowers.

The Garey-Whalen Post of the American Legion was in charge of graveside military services.

Mr. Countryman died at Veterans' hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 20, following a short illness.

The son of Gene and Mary Lou Clark Countryman, he was born Dec. 4, 1921 in Tipton and received his education in the Wyoming and Olin Public schools. He was married to Betty Hansen O'Connor Feb. 20, 1949 at Morrison, Ill.

A farm laborer and building custodian, he lived in the Tipton area from 1954 to 1960 and had since lived in Cedar Rapids.

He served in World War II as a private first class.

Mr. Countryman is survived by his wife, Betty, 4 sons, John, Duane, Cary and Michael, all of Cedar Rapids and 2 daughters, Janice, Fort Irwin, Calif., and Connie, Cedar Rapids, 2 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Wallace, Whittier, Calif.; Warren, Bellflower, Calif; Kenneth, Rock Island, Ill. and Donald, Rochester, N.H. and 2 sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Doris) Brick and Mrs. Clarice Cihla, both of Tipton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
